How to Choose an Affiliate Program

Posted on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in For Publishers, Guest Posts, Uncategorized, Web Site Development

Learning how to choose an affiliate program is an important step to earning money

online. There is much competition among people trying to earn revenue as well as

affiliate programs to assist you in this endeavor.

Here are the tips to choosing an affiliate program:

1. Choose programs that offer hot products – items that people are buying and

that are popular among online buyers. This is an easy step because you can learn

the trends just by reading any social media sites, blogs and watching what is selling

on auction sites for example. The only caveat is that these products change

frequently.

2. Research the affiliate programs you are interested in. Learn if they have clear

information about their payments and if there are many complaints about them.

3. Choose a two-tier program. This is where you earn money from the referrals

you send to the affiliate program as well as their business.

4. Make use of mentors. Even seasoned marketers need advice. For example,

many affiliate marketers and bloggers are always willing to advise others

and make connections. Finding an affiliate program that they endorse is often a

good way to get started.

5. Choose a program that provides support that available to you via phone and

email. You want a partner to guide you along and help you to earn money and

avoid mistakes.

Deciding on the best affiliate program is vital to earning revenue and maintaining

that revenue stream. Research, get advice and make use of mentors. Soon you

may be one of the Super Affiliates too.

  1. Thanks Connie for the guest post! I especially like your word of advice on getting a mentor. As many know, the affiliate industry is built on word-of-mouth, buzz, and trade secrets. Finding someone you can trust and learn from will help you greatly in the long run.
Also, along these lines, be open to failure! A seasoned affiliate marketer will have upwards of 30-50 failed sites, etc, from which they honed their talents. This is one industry where mistakes are never mistakes, just stepping stones.

  4. Wow! I came here to read this post and didn't realize it was written by Connie Foggles! Wow! Great article, Connie. I've dropped affiliate marketing for now. Maybe later I'll get back into it if and when I'm willing to devote the time to do it right.

  8. Good fill someone in on and this enter helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you seeking your information.

  9. Another point to consider is the potential of the relationship to help your business and leverage underutilized assets.

Our affiliate program offer is presented after a sale on the shopping cart thank you / order confirmation page or our affiliates. They’ve already made the sale and most often the thank you page has no upsell or incentive marketing message.

We provide an incentive for the shopper to return to the site (currently $10 cash on next purchase just for trying our service) – increasing the consumer’s perception of the value of doing business with you.

We pay a straight 15% lifetime recurring commission on our monthly subscription(current price of $11.95 per month). Each subscription has the potential to earn our affiliates more than $21 per year for the life of the subscription.

Oh, and pick your partners carefully. You want your reputation enhanced by your affiliate offers. On HomeESP we have a public customer service forum to show how we resolve any concerns paying customers might have. You can see the full details of our program here: http://www.tinyurl.com/tkaff

  10. Certainly you are correct that the affiliate relationship should strengthen, enhance and support your brand. Especially when there is so much fraud and black hat activity that as the advertiser you have little control over. It’s one reason that merchants turn to affiliate networks.
